The Aloha 27 represents a pivotal era for Ouyang Boat Works, marking a transition toward more contemporary, performanceoriented cruising lines under the direction of legendary naval architect Robert Perry. Introduced in the late 1970s as a successor to the heavier, Ted Brewerdesigned Aloha 28, the Aloha 27—also marketed at various times as the Aloha 8.2, the Aloha 26, and the Aloha 271—balanced Canadian ruggedness with Perry’s signature "performancecruiser" philosophy. Built in Whitby, Ontario, the vessel was designed specifically to handle the short, steep chop of the Great Lakes while providing enough interior volume to satisfy families transitioning from daysailers to pocket cruisers. With approximately 188 units produced, it remains a staple of the North American used market, prized for its solid fiberglass hull and remarkably high headroom for a boat of its length.
