The Aira 22 represents a significant shift in the European daysailer market, designed specifically to modernize the experience of openkeelboat sailing. Developed in Sneek, Netherlands, by Jos Snijders Blok in collaboration with the renowned naval architects at Simonis Voogd Design, the vessel was conceived as a more comfortable, stylish, and performanceoriented alternative to traditional Dutch training boats like the Polyvalk. The boat's success led to a strategic partnership in 2023, where the prominent performance brand RS Sailing took over international marketing and distribution, rebranding the model as the RS Aira 22. Constructed using a glassreinforced polyester (GRP) sandwich hull with a distinctive rubber fendering strip, the Aira 22 is built to withstand the rigors of both sailing schools and family outings. It is available in three primary configurations: the "Club," a simplified version for schools; the "Daysailer," which emphasizes comfort with cockpit cushions and an electric motor; and the "Match," which features a performanceoriented gennaker setup and extended hardware.
