Introduced in 1996 and built by Precision Boat Works in Florida, the vessel was engineered to bridge the gap between a performance daysailer and a capable coastal cruiser. Unlike many 26-footers of its era that prioritized interior volume, the Colgate 26 was designed with an oversized, ergonomic cockpit and a focus on safety, specifically to serve the needs of the Offshore Sailing School and major maritime institutions. Its reputation for durability and balance eventually earned it the "Boat of the Year" award from Cruising World and saw it adopted by the U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy as a primary trainer.
