The Islander 32 is a hallmark of the early 1960s fiberglass transition, representing Joseph McGlasson's successful translation of traditional wooden aesthetics into a productionfriendly medium. Originally produced by the Wayfarer Yacht Corporation, the design followed the success of the Islander 24 and quickly became a staple for coastal cruisers who valued a seaworthy hull over contemporary racing speed. As noted in the historical archives of the Islander 36 Association, the model was instrumental in establishing the brand's identity before the later, more performanceoriented Alan Gurney designs took center stage.
