The Hobie Mirage Adventure Island represents a paradigm shift in smallcraft design, blurring the lines between a highperformance touring kayak and a nimble sailing trimaran. Launched in 2006 as an evolution of the Mirage Adventure kayak, this 16foot vessel utilizes a rotomolded polyethylene hull equipped with retractable "amas" (outriggers) and "akas" (crossbeams). Its defining feature is the integration of three distinct modes of propulsion: a vertical, rollerfurling mainsail; the handsfree MirageDrive pedal system; and a traditional paddle.
