The Parker 31, introduced in 1987, represented a significant evolution for Parker Yachts as they transitioned from building worldclass racing dinghies and small cruisers like the Super Seal 26 into the realm of serious offshorecapable cruising yachts. Developed by Bill Parker and based on a design by naval architect Tony Castro, the boat was adapted from the Passagemaker 31 hull. While the Passagemaker was a fixedkeel design, Parker’s version implemented their signature highperformance vertical lifting keel, a feature that allowed the boat to combine deepdraft windward performance with the ability to explore shallow estuaries and drying harbors. According to the Seal Sailing Association, which serves as the primary technical authority for the brand, the Parker 31 remained in production until 1993, when it was eventually superseded by the Parker 325—a model that utilized the same hull but featured a revised "sugar scoop" transom and an updated interior.
