Designed in 1957 by Danish yacht designer Knud Olsen, the OK Dinghy was born out of a specific and demanding design brief: to serve as a light, fast, and accessible singlehanded training vessel for the Olympic Finn class. Commissioned by Axel Damgaard Olsen, who sought a plywoodbuilt boat that was easy to homebuild but offered highperformance handling, the design was christened using Knud Olsen’s reversed initials. Instead of fading into the shadow of its larger Olympic sibling, the OK Dinghy evolved into a global phenomenon. By the late 1960s and 1970s, it had grown into one of the most popular racing singlehanders in the world, with production numbers eventually surpassing 15,000 units. While the explosive rise of the strict onedesign Laser (now ILCA) in the 1980s temporarily slowed its momentum, the OK Dinghy has experienced a massive modern resurgence. Today, it remains a highly competitive international class, celebrated for its technical sophistication and a dedicated community of racers who appreciate a boat that can be personalized to their exact physical stature and sailing style.
