The Hustler 30 occupies a distinct and respected niche in the history of British cruiserracers. Designed by the esteemed naval architect Don Pye of the legendary design firm Holman & Pye, the model was launched in 1970 as a competitive International Offshore Rule (IOR) HalfTonner. Developed from the lines of the successful wooden Hustler 28, this fiberglass cruiserracer was conceived during an era when boatbuilders were transitioning from heavy timber to glassreinforced plastic (GRP), allowing for sleeker, stronger, and more resilient hulls. The hulls were molded by the Tyler Boat Company, a pioneer in early GRP production, while the majority of the completed factory yachts were finished by the master shipwrights at Landamores Yacht Builders in Hoveton, Norfolk. Because Landamores would later go on to build the foundational hulls for Oyster Marine, the factoryfinished Hustler 30s display an exceptional level of traditional joinery and interior fitout. However, the builder also offered the model as a "kit" boat for home completion, meaning modern buyers will find a wide spectrum of interior execution and craftsmanship.
