The Gib’Sea 282, introduced in 1988, stands as a quintessential example of the "new generation" of French cruising yachts that prioritized internal volume and beam over traditional narrow lines. Designed by the prolific naval architecture firm of Michel Joubert and Bernard Nivelt, the 282 was part of a comprehensive rebranding by Gibert Marine that included siblings like the 242, 262, 312, and the larger 372 and 442. At the time of its release, the 282 was considered revolutionary for its 3.15meter beam, a width more commonly associated with 30 to 32foot vessels of that era. This design philosophy aimed to provide family cruisers with the amenities of a much larger boat within a hull that remained manageable for shorthanded coastal hopping. While production eventually tapered off as the yard transitioned into the Dufour portfolio, the 282 remains a staple of the European secondhand market.
