When Discovery Yachts introduced the Discovery 42, it marked a distinct and strategic shift for the prestigious British boatbuilder. Renowned primarily for its massive, heavydisplacement, centercockpit bluewater cruisers like the iconic Discovery 55, the shipyard sought to distill its reputation for uncompromised luxury and allweather capability into a more compact, aftcockpit package. Commissioned in the late 2000s, with a refined production run starting in 2019 under the restructured Discovery Yachts Group, the Discovery 42 was not penned by Ron Holland like its larger siblings. Instead, the shipyard turned to the esteemed naval architect Stephen Jones, whose design pedigree injected a more spirited, responsive performance profile into the cruiser's DNA. The result was an exceptionally built, decksaloon passagemaker designed specifically for shorthanded couples who refused to compromise on luxury, safety, or sailing sensations.
