The Cal 225 represents a significant evolutionary step in the lineage of Jensen Marine’s small cruiserracer offerings. Introduced in 1978 as a successor to the legendary Cal 25 Mark I, the 225 was designed by C. William Lapworth to address the shifting demands of the late 1970s market, which prioritized increased interior volume and "big boat" amenities in a trailerable or neartrailerable package. Unlike its predecessor, which leaned heavily toward Midget Ocean Racing Club (MORC) competition, the 225 was a reimagined hull with a wider 9foot beam and a more substantial displacement of approximately 4,500 pounds. This design shift moved the model away from the "poptop" configuration of the early 25 and toward a fixedcoachroof profile that provided a sturdier, more weathertight platform for coastal cruising.
