Introduced in 2013 by the Polish shipyard Navikom, the Viko S 22 emerged as a bold, contemporary attempt to redefine the pocket cruiser market. Designed by the Italian firm Sergio Lupoli Yacht Design (SLYD), the S 22 was created to bridge the gap between Viko’s smaller, entrylevel daysailers and their larger, more cruisingoriented models. By incorporating aggressive modern styling—including a hard chine running nearly the full length of the hull and a broad, open transom—Lupoli sought to offer European lake and coastal sailors a boat that looked like a modern racer but possessed the interior volume of a much larger vessel. The design achieved immediate industry recognition, winning the Premio Italia per la Vela in 2013 and Poland's Yacht of the Year in 2014. However, this ambitious design brief, which attempted to blend lowcost highvolume manufacturing with sporty Italian design lines, also introduced unique engineering tradeoffs that have defined the model's reputation in the years since.
