Viko sailboats: Italian design at Polish production prices

Viko's proposition is unusually easy to state: performance-cruiser design bought from Italian studios, built in Poland, and sold at prices the established Western European brands don't try to match. Blue Water Sailing put it plainly, describing the Viko 30 and 35 as comparing to similarly sized cruisers at about half the price. What the brand lacks in published history — the company tells its story through product pages rather than a heritage archive — it makes up in a clearly legible design lineage.

The design partnerships

The sport line that made Viko's name belongs to Sergio Lupoli Yacht Design. The studio's partnership with the Navikom shipyard produced hull forms and interiors that achieved commercial success across Europe, beginning with boats that carried a recognizable Italian pedigree: the Viko S22 inherits characteristics of the Comet 26 and Comet 31 lines, and it collected the Italia per la Vela best-design award in 2013 and Poland's Best Sailboat title the following year. Lupoli went on to draw the S30 and the sport line's flagship S35, which Viko presented at the Genoa International Boat Show.

The next chapter changed studios. As the range grew, Cossutti Yacht Design became responsible for the Stratos 43, reported by YACHT magazine at the start of 2024 with a premiere planned for boot Düsseldorf the following year. YACHT described the boat as following the Viko philosophy on a larger scale — and noted that its pricing showed the company remaining true to its pricing policy even at forty-three feet.

Lines and models

The S sport line spans the 20, 22, 26, 30, and 35, complemented by a trailer-cruiser line of smaller boats and a separate motorboat range. Growth has been physical as well: in late 2017 the company opened a new production hall in Zakrzewo, near Poznań, saying it would allow production capacity to as much as double — the expansion that enabled its largest models to that point, the V 35, V 40, and V 50. Distribution runs through dealers across Europe; Blue Water Sailing reported deliveries of more than two hundred boats a year, with North American presence at that time limited to one Canadian dealer.

Who Viko is for

Viko suits the sailor who wants a modern, sporty hull and a new-boat or nearly-new ownership experience at a used-production-boat price, and who is willing to accept a plainer finish and lighter equipment specification as the trade. The design pedigree is genuine — Lupoli's sport line earned its awards, and the Cossutti flagship extends the same idea — but the brand's value positioning, not prestige, is the reason to shop it.

Frequently asked questions

01Who builds Viko sailboats?+
Viko Yachts is a Polish production builder, operated by the Navikom shipyard, with its production hall in Zakrzewo near Poznań. The company sells through dealers across Europe, and Blue Water Sailing reported it delivering more than two hundred boats to new owners a year, with North American distribution at that time limited to a single dealer in Canada.
02Who designs Viko sailboats?+
Two Italian studios define the range. Sergio Lupoli Yacht Design drew the S sport line — including the S22, S30, and the S35 — with hull forms and interiors that found commercial success across Europe. Cossutti Yacht Design took over for the larger Stratos 43, which YACHT magazine described as following the Viko philosophy on a larger scale.
03Are Viko sailboats good value?+
Value is the brand's entire positioning. Blue Water Sailing described the Viko 30 and 35 as comparing to similarly sized cruisers on the market at about half the price, and YACHT magazine noted that even the larger Stratos 43's pricing stayed true to the company's pricing policy. Test reviews consistently pair that praise with notes on finish and hardware specification, which is where the savings show.
04What is the Viko S22 known for?+
The S22 is a sport cruiser that shares its Italian design lineage with the Comet 26 and Comet 31. It won the Italia per la Vela award for best design in 2013 and was named Poland's Best Sailboat the following year — the boat that established the Lupoli-designed sport line's reputation.
05What Viko models are there?+
The S sport line spans the 20, 22, 26, 30, and 35, alongside a trailer-cruiser line of smaller boats. The company's 2017 production expansion enabled its largest models, and the Cossutti-designed Stratos 43 extended the range further, with its premiere planned for boot Düsseldorf 2025.
