The TMI 30 represents a brief but historically significant chapter in American fiberglass boat building. Designed in the late 1970s by legendary naval architect Halsey Chase Herreshoff, this 30foot cruiser was originally introduced as the flagship Chrysler 30 (or CY 30) by Chrysler Marine’s sailboat division. When Texas Marine International (TMI) acquired Chrysler’s sailing assets in 1979, they inherited the tooling and built the boat as the TMI 30 until the company dissolved in 1981. Following TMI's exit, the molds were acquired by Canada’s Ticon Yachts, where the boat enjoyed a second life as the Ticon 30. Consequently, while the TMI 30 itself is a rare find with only 48 units produced under the TMI banner, it shares a lineage with a larger family of hulls widely regarded for their volumetric efficiency and stout construction.
