Designed by the esteemed naval architects at Laurent Giles Archive, the Scimitar was conceived as a modern, low-maintenance alternative to established wooden one-design classes like the XOD. Construction was undertaken by Saro (Anglesey) Ltd, a subsidiary of the aerospace giant Saunders-Roe, utilizing the company’s extensive experience in tank testing and high-performance marine engineering. Approximately 70 units were produced, primarily at the Saro facility in Beaumaris, Wales.
