The Outremer 50/55 represents the zenith of the Gérard Danson era, a period defined by a "performancefirst" philosophy that prioritized speed and seaworthiness over the voluminous interiors typical of modern cruising catamarans. Produced primarily during the 1990s and early 2000s, these vessels are recognizable by their remarkably slim hulls, high bridge deck clearance, and the inclusion of daggerboards—a combination that allows them to point higher and sail faster than almost any other production cruising multihull of their vintage. The "50/55" nomenclature denotes the evolution of the hull; while many were originally launched as 50footers, the factory eventually offered 2.5foot transom extensions to create the 55.
