In 2010, the Turkish shipyard MAT Yachts partnered with renowned naval architect Mark Mills of Mills Yacht Design to launch the MAT 1010, a dedicated 33foot IRC and ORC cruiserracer that challenged the European establishment. Coming on the heels of the builder's highly successful MAT 12, the 1010 was conceived to capture the highly competitive tenmeter rating band. Unlike massproduction racercruisers that merely add racing hardware to heavy, productionline cruising hulls, the MAT 1010 was engineered from the keel up as an uncompromising dualpurpose machine. It was designed to offer the structural stiffness and sailing refinement of a custom Grand Prix racer, while providing just enough interior compliance to satisfy category rules and lightweight weekend cruising.
