The Irwin 27 holds a significant place in American maritime history as the vessel that launched Irwin Yacht and Marine Corporation in 1967. Designed by Ted Irwin, it was a pioneer in the transition toward fiberglass production boats that maximized interior volume without sacrificing the ability to explore shallow coastal waters. During its production run, which spanned nearly two decades through various "Mark" iterations, the 27 became a staple of the Florida and Chesapeake Bay sailing scenes.
