Designed in 1977 by the Danish naval architect Erling Bjørn Jensen, the Impala 20 is a unique and clever pocket cruiser that stands apart from the typical massproduced fiberglass vessels of its era. Conceived at a time when amateur boatbuilding was enjoying a global renaissance, Jensen specifically drafted the Impala 20 as a highperformance pocket cruiser intended for home construction using waterproof marine plywood. This approach democratized access to the water, allowing sailors to construct a highly capable pocket yacht from official plans for a fraction of the cost of factorymolded alternatives. While Danish quality and thoughtful engineering are baked into the design, the amateurbuilt nature of this model means that the execution, finish, and structural integrity of surviving examples can vary considerably from one hull to the next.
