The Gib’Sea 28, introduced in 1978 by Gibert Marine, serves as a quintessential example of the French "findesiècle" approach to family cruiserracers. Designed by JeanClaude Meyran, this 28foot masthead sloop was engineered during an era when manufacturers were transitioning from heavy, narrow hulls to more voluminous, beamier designs to accommodate the growing demand for interior comfort. With a production run that spanned through the early 1980s, the 28 became a staple of the European coastal cruising scene. It was followed by the Gib’Sea 282, which utilized a modified hull and updated deck mold, but the original 28 remains favored by traditionalists for its robust construction and predictable manners.
