Designed by Ron Amy—a designer whose work is often inextricably linked with the Spindrift and Formosa labels—the 43 was conceived as a rugged, bluewater capable vessel. It is most frequently encountered as a cutter or ketch rig, featuring the clipper bow, bowsprit, and heavy teak accents that define the "Taiwanese Ferry" or "Leaky Teaky" subgenre of cruising sailboats.
