The Fountaine Pajot Fidji 39 represents a pivotal moment in the evolution of the cruising catamaran, serving as the bridge between the shipyard’s early racinginspired designs and the highvolume luxury cruisers that define the modern multihull market. Launched in 1988 and designed by the prolific naval architecture firm of Joubert/Nivelt, the Fidji 39 was introduced during a prolific era for the La Rochellebased builder, following the success of the Louisiane 37 and the Casamance 43. Unlike many of its contemporaries, the Fidji 39 sought to balance the lowdrag, sleek silhouettes favored by European offshore sailors with the increasing demand for habitable volume. Constructed using Fountaine Pajot’s signature vacuumbagged foamcore sandwich method, the vessel remains notably lighter than modern 40foot catamarans, a characteristic that fundamentally defines its behavior on the water.
