Buying a used Regina: match the hull to its ownership era

A used Regina carries the history of an Orust yard that changed hands twice during the line's production span, so knowing which owner stood behind a given hull matters as much as the model number. Carl Beyer's deck-saloon design carried through every transition unchanged, but the company that built and stood behind the boat - and the yard that physically finished it - shifted twice over the years.

Which era to target

A boat built before 2012 came from an independently operating Regina af Vindö Yachts AB, sold in the US under the Regina Yachts name. Production passed to the neighboring Orust yard, CR Yachts, in early 2012 - a takeover that, by one trade account, turned the combined operation into one of the larger deck-saloon builders in Scandinavia. The lineup's designs, five models spanning 35 to 49 feet at the time, carried over unchanged, so a post-2012 hull isn't a different design, just a different builder of record. A second shift followed in November 2017, when CR Yachts and Regina of Vindö Yachts joined Sweden Yachts and Malö Yachts to form the Sweden Yachts Group, relocating production to the Malö shipyard at Kungsviken - the Regina 43 was among the models still being built there afterward. A hull built after that 2017 move came out of a different physical yard than one built under either earlier owner, even if the model name on the transom reads the same.

Navigating the lineup

The range runs from the 35 up through the 38, 43 and 49, all Carl Beyer-designed deck-saloon cruisers rather than distinct sub-lines with their own design language - so choosing among them comes down to size and layout more than era-driven differences in the boat itself.
