Buying a used Privilège: continuity of place, discontinuity of ownership
A used Privilège comes from a yard that has changed corporate hands four times since 2012 — a liquidation-sale rebuild under Gilles Wagner, a sale to Hanse Yachts, a buyback by Wagner and a consortium of the brand's own customers, and a 2024 sale to the Czech-Dutch fund PPF — yet every one of those owners kept building from the same Les Sables-d'Olonne yard Philippe Jeantot founded in 1985, with Marc Lombard drawing the hulls throughout. For a used buyer, that continuity of place and design partner matters more than which name was on the shipyard gate the year a given hull was built: condition and documentation say more about what you're getting than ownership era does, though the era still shapes which design partners and support network a hull belongs to.
Which era to target
The used market splits roughly along those ownership eras. Pre-2012 boats — built under the Alliaura Marine name, including the 465 and the 24-boat run of the 585 — predate the Wagner-era rebuild and its two-brand structure of Privilège catamarans and Feeling monohulls. The 2012–2018 Wagner years produced the Série-named catamarans, including the export-focused Série 6 and the 23-metre Série 7, built as the rebuilt yard grew from 18 to 102 employees. Hanse's 2018–2022 ownership introduced the Signature line: the 510, built on the Série 5's tested hull, and the 580, the first Privilège catamaran designed entirely from scratch under Hanse. Wagner's 2022 buyback and PPF's 2024 acquisition, which brought in former Nautitech CEO Gildas Le Masson, have carried the Signature line forward since.
