Buying a used Jongert: one hull's history, not a production spec

Jongert built semi-custom and custom sailing yachts rather than production-line boats, so buying used means evaluating one specific hull's construction and maintenance record rather than assuming a uniform factory spec across the model. Ownership of the yard itself has also passed through several hands — the VeKa Group in 2009, Acico Yachts in 2015, and Hans Kortlevers's LMEY Investments AG in early 2026 — so continuity of parts and factory support can't be assumed the way it might with a single-owner brand. A given yacht's own service history carries more weight here than brand continuity alone.

Which era to target

Jongert adopted aluminium construction in the 1960s, alongside the steel building it had used from its early years, so hull material varies by boat rather than by a clean cutoff date — establish which one a given yacht was built in early in any search. Yachts from the late 1970s and 1980s, designed with Sparkman & Stephens and Andrea Vallicelli, carry the yard's strongest design pedigree, including multiple Superyacht of the Year wins; later yachts carry Doug Peterson, Tony Castro, or André Hoek designs instead. Matching era and design partner to intended use matters at least as much as raw length.

What to inspect across the range

Construction is steel or aluminium across the range, and both the 21S and the 25DS, among others, were steel-hulled — confirm which material built a specific hull before judging its condition, rather than assuming one construction method across the lineup. Because the yard built semi-custom rather than to a fixed spec, expect real variance hull to hull: some 25DS owners, for instance, added equipment like dive compressors, extended tender garages, or small workshops, and interior joinery in teak, mahogany, or cherry was fitted to individual taste rather than a single template. Treat a given hull's equipment and joinery as bespoke rather than standard, and survey accordingly.

Jongert's range runs from around 50 feet to just over 100 feet, spanning designs from the yard's early Zwalkers-and-Trewes era through its later Peterson- and Castro-designed yachts.
