Buying a used Delphia: a closed design era from a single credited hand
Delphia stopped building sailboats on September 1, 2019, when the Olecko yard's owner, Groupe Beneteau, ended the sail line to concentrate on motorboats. That means a used Delphia sailboat is always drawn from a finite, closed production run -- essentially the work of one credited designer, Andrzej Skrzat, across roughly a quarter century -- rather than a still-evolving model range. Buying used here is less about picking a brand's newest idea and more about matching a boat to the ownership era and construction approach it was built under.
Which era to target
Delphia's sailboats fall into three broad chapters. The earliest, built through the 1990s as Sportlake and then Delphia Yachts models -- the Sportina 680 among them -- were small, swing-keel boats suited to coastal and inland Polish sailing. The Kot family's independent years after the 2001 rebrand, running through the 2012 Maxi Yachts acquisition, produced most of the mid-size range, including the 2003 flagship Delphia 40 with its Yacht Structural Integrity construction. A later ".3" generation, the 40.3 among them, refreshed the larger boats ahead of Groupe Beneteau's 2018 stake purchase; the five models then in production at the September 2019 closure were the 29, 34, 40.3, 46 DS, and 47. What to inspect across the range
Two points come up more than once in independent reviews. Ventilation is one: Cruising World found the Delphia 40 short on dorade vents, leaving airflow lacking in wet weather, and Sail made a near-identical observation about the later 40.3, noting a lack of ventilation openings -- worth checking either boat for factory or owner-added deck vents. Handholds are the other: Sail found the 37 lacking handholds on the foredeck, leaving crew to rely on the toerail and lifelines, and noted the same gap forward of the mast on the 40.3's otherwise well-handheld raised saloon. Neither issue is disqualifying on its own, but both are worth a hands-on check rather than an assumption from listing photos.

The lineup runs from small swing-keel daysailers and coastal cruisers through the Skrzat-designed mid-size range to the 46 and 47-footers that closed out the line.
