Among the distinct lineages of European boatbuilding, the Dutch brand Waarschip occupies a revered, almost cultlike status. Founded in 1963 by Willem J. Akkerman and Klaas T. Kremer in the village of 't Waar, the shipyard pioneered a highly rigid, lightweight, and fast construction method using marine plywood and solid mahogany profiles. When the Waarschip 900—and its subsequent evolution, the 900+—was introduced in the early 1980s, it represented a highwater mark for the builder’s philosophy. Conceived as an IOR halftonner and highperformance family cruiser, the 32foot design was built to tackle the challenging coastal waters of the North Sea and the IJsselmeer. While the massmarket builders of the era were embracing increasingly heavy, volumetric fiberglass production, Waarschip adhered to their signature clinkerstyle multichine woodepoxy construction, offering sailors a yacht of extraordinary stiffness, customwood joinery, and an undeniable aesthetic appeal that turns heads in any harbor.
