The US 35 was introduced in 1979 during a pivotal era for its parent manufacturer, Bayliner. In an effort to shake off the budgetoriented, entrylevel reputation associated with its Buccaneer line of sailboats, Bayliner established the US Yachts division to build more sophisticated, competitive cruiserracers. To secure immediate credibility in the 35foot segment, the builder acquired the hull molds of the Canadianbuilt Cooper 353—a robust cruiser penned by respected West Coast naval architect Stan Huntingford. By repurposing Huntingford’s design, US Yachts bypassed the developmental phase and brought a proven, seaworthy hull to the broader American production market.
