The mid1980s marked a significant transition in North American sailboat design, as builders shifted from narrow, heavydisplacement traditional cruisers to wider, lighter, and more performanceoriented "pocket cruisers." The Tanzer 25, introduced in 1986, sits at the vanguard of this evolution. Conceived during the final days of the legendary Canadian builder Tanzer Industries, this model was a major departure from the conservative, utilitarian aesthetic of its highly successful predecessors like the Tanzer 22. Instead of relying on inhouse templates, the company commissioned the renowned French naval architecture firm JoubertNivelt to design a vessel that brought European design sensibilities, spirited fractionalrig performance, and unprecedented interior volume to the 25foot class. The result was a boat that defied its dimensions, delivering accommodations and speed that typically belonged to boats three or four feet longer.
