The Solus Alta is a distinctively narrow, performanceoriented cruiserracer designed by the Danish naval architect Bjarne Marcussen. Produced between 1981 and 1984 by A/S Frederikssund Skibsværft in Denmark, the model was born from an era of European yacht design that prioritized "needle" hull profiles and high ballast ratios to achieve competitive speeds under contemporary handicap rules. With approximately 30 units ever produced, the Alta remains a rare sight outside of Scandinavian waters, though it maintains a dedicated following among sailors who value sailing feel over interior volume. The boat was often sold as a kit for home completion, leading to significant variations in finish quality and interior layout among the surviving fleet.
