When the Spanish builder Sinergia Composites commissioned the naval architecture team of Marcelino Botin and Shaun Carkeek in the late 1990s, the goal was singularly focused: create a 40foot racercruiser that could dominate the highly competitive International Measurement System Class B circuit while retaining enough interior civility to satisfy the cruiser portion of the designation. Launched in 2001, the Sinergia 40 became an immediate sensation on the European regatta scene, taking class honors at the 2001 Rolex IMS Offshore World Championship and following it up with a victory at the 2002 IMS European Championship. Built in Spain, this semicustom performance yacht was designed as a direct counterpoint to more massproduced cruiserracers, offering highmodulus construction and a highly optimized sail plan that appealed to serious competitive syndicates and demanding helmsmen.
