The Seaway 25 represents a landmark chapter in the golden era of Australian trailerable yachts, marrying the pedigree of one of the world’s most celebrated naval architects with the competitive practicalities of domestic traileryacht racing. Commissioned in 1978 by builder and World Half Ton Champion Tom Stephenson of Stevenson Sailboats, the boat was designed by the legendary American designer Doug Peterson. Peterson derived the lines from his highly successful Quarter Ton racing designs, specifically Star Eyed Stellar and Dave Ullman’s Blitz. The resulting vessel was optimized to navigate the notorious, short, sharp chop of Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay while conforming to the Junior Offshore Group (JOG) and International Offshore Rule (IOR) Quarter Ton limits. Over its production run, it carved out a reputation as a fierce competitor that remains highly active in club fleets and classic trailersailer regattas.
