Conceived in the twilight of the International Offshore Rule (IOR) boom of the midtolate 1970s, the Offshore One (often referred to as the Offshore One Chance) represents a fascinating intersection of radical naval architecture and traditional American fiberglass build quality. Designed by the legendary and highly analytical naval architect Britton Chance Jr., and built by Charles "Charley" Morgan’s newly established Heritage Yacht Corp. in Clearwater, Florida, the boat was launched in 1976 during a period of fierce international competition. Britton Chance Jr., known for his experimental and rulebending America's Cup designs (such as the 12meter Chancegger and the redesign of Intrepid), brought his signature boundarypushing lines to this 33foot racercruiser. The model emerged just as Heritage Yacht Corp. was carving out its postMorgan Yachts identity, offering sailors a highly technical, deepkeeled alternative to the beamy, centercockpit "West Indies" cruising ketches that dominated the builder's production lines.
