The Morris 42 is a quintessential example of the "Mainebuilt" tradition, emerging from a celebrated collaboration between founder Tom Morris and legendary naval architect Chuck Paine. Part of the builder's "Ocean Series," the 42 was designed as a highperformance offshore cruiser, distinct from the later Sparkman & Stephensdesigned MSeries daysailers. While the M42 (daysailer) focuses on ease of use for short jaunts, the Morris 42 (cruiser) was engineered for the rigors of bluewater passagemaking. Each hull was largely a semicustom undertaking, resulting in a fleet where no two boats are identical, yet all share the same pedigree of robust construction and elegant, traditional lines. The Morris 42 serves as the middle ground between the Morris 40 and the larger Morris 44 and 46 models, all of which utilized Paine’s "Bermuda Series" design philosophy to balance speed with a seakindly motion.
