The Morgan 322 and its successor, the 323, represent a significant pivot in the design philosophy of Morgan Yachts during the late 1970s and early 1980s. While the company was historically defined by the heavydisplacement centerboarders of Charley Morgan’s early career and the highvolume Out Island series, the 322 was a deliberate attempt to capture the "performance cruiser" market. Moving away from the fullkeel lineage, these models adopted a modern underbody featuring a fin keel and a spade rudder, aimed at sailors who demanded better windward ability and more responsive handling than the earlier, stodgier cruising models could provide.
