The Mirage 30 SX represents the performanceoriented pinnacle of the collaboration between Mirage Yachts and legendary naval architect Bruce Kirby. Introduced in 1985, the SX (Sport Extra) was a direct evolution of the Kirby 30, redesigned specifically to dominate the PHRF and MORC racing circuits that were, at the time, heavily influenced by the J/30. Unlike its namesake, the Robert Perrydesigned Mirage 30—which was a stout, mastheadrigged family cruiser—the 30 SX was built for speed, featuring a more aggressive deck molding, a refined fractional rig, and a deeper, highaspect keel and rudder assembly. It was the highperformance sibling to a family that included the "J/24killing" Kirby 25 and the earlier Kirby 30 hull, serving as the factorytuned version for serious regional competitors.
