Launched in 1990, the 3200 was a direct refinement of Tony Smith’s vision for a "standard slip" catamaran—a multihull capable of fitting into a 14-foot wide marina berth, which remains one of the narrowest beams in the cruising catamaran world. This design choice prioritized accessibility and cost-efficiency for coastal cruisers who were traditionally deterred by the high slip fees of wider multihulls. Built in Annapolis, Maryland, the 3200 utilized a solid fiberglass hull below the waterline with balsa-coring in the decks and topsides, a construction method documented in the Gemini Catamarans Heritage archives.
