The Dickerson Farr 37 represents a pivotal moment in the history of Dickerson Boatbuilders, marking a departure from the yard’s traditional, heavydisplacement Chesapeake heritage toward the highstakes world of performance racing. Commissioned in 1983 under the leadership of Ted Reed, the vessel was designed by the legendary Bruce Farr as a dedicated highperformance cruiserracer. While the company simultaneously produced the George Hazendesigned Dickerson 37—a more conservative, skegrudder cruiser—the Farr 37 was engineered specifically to compete under the International Offshore Rule (IOR). This model successfully bridged the gap between Dickerson’s reputation for robust, handcrafted construction and the modern demands of the racing circuit, famously securing the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association’s High Point Trophy shortly after its introduction.
