The late 1970s marked a vibrant era for British trailersailers, defined by a push toward performanceoriented designs that rejected the slow, heavydisplacement pocket cruisers of the past. Launched in 1978, the Evolution 22 emerged as a radical departure from these traditional norms. Conceived by naval architect Julian Everitt during his tenure at Evolution Yachts in Southampton, this 21.75foot pocket rocket was engineered to bridge the gap between a highperformance racing dinghy and a capable coastal cruiser. At a time when European lake boats and traditional gaffrigged trailersailers dominated the market, the Evolution 22 offered a fast, exciting, and highly functional alternative, completing its production run in 1984 with approximately 90 hulls built.
