The Ericson 262, often designated as the 26 Mark II to distinguish it from its 1960s predecessor, represents the pinnacle of Bruce King’s smallyacht design philosophy during the mid1980s. Launched in 1984 and produced until approximately 1988, this model was engineered to provide the feel and "bigboat" amenities of a 30footer within a 26foot footprint. Unlike the original Ericson 26, which featured more traditional lines and a lower profile, the 262 utilized a modern hull form with a significantly increased beam and the proprietary TriAxial Force Grid (TAFG). This internal structural system, a hallmark of the era’s Ericson builds, involved a premolded fiberglass grid bonded to the hull to distribute the loads from the mast, shroud chainplates, and keel, resulting in a remarkably rigid and durable platform.
