The launch of the Comet 33 S in 2003 marked a pivotal chapter in the modern revival of the historic Italian yard Comar Yachts. Designed by the legendary Neapolitan naval architect Sergio Lupoli, this model was conceived as a light, aggressive cruiserracer engineered to bridge the gap between a comfortable weekend home and a competitive ORC/IRC club racer. To bypass the strict bureaucratic and taxation frameworks of Italian maritime authorities, Comar strategically kept the hull length of the Comet 33 S at exactly 9.99 meters, officially classifying it as a "natante". This designation exempts the vessel from formal registration and licensing requirements in its home waters, yet its overall length of 33.46 feet (10.20 meters) allows it to compete on equal footing with fullsized 33foot cruisers. Lupoli successfully engineered a package that maximizes waterline length and cockpit space while keeping the displacement remarkably low.
