The Chris-Craft Sail Yacht 35, frequently marketed and referred to as the Caribbean 35, represents a sophisticated pivot in the history of a manufacturer primarily known for its mahogany powerboats. Introduced in the mid-1960s, the model was the result of a high-profile collaboration with the preeminent naval architecture firm Sparkman & Stephens, designated as Design No. 1754. Unlike the lighter, performance-oriented sailboats of the era, the Sail Yacht 35 was conceived as a "full-power auxiliary," a term used by the builder to describe a vessel that offered the interior volume and motoring capabilities of a cabin cruiser without sacrificing the grace of a sailing yacht. Its heavy-displacement fiberglass hull and high-freeboard profile marked it as one of the earliest successful attempts to market a center-cockpit cruising yacht to the American middle class.
