Deck grip and handholds vary by model: Yachting World found the 44 Open's non-slip surface lacking texture for wet-weather grip, and SAIL Magazine flagged the 541/542's cabintrunk as short on substantial handholds - worth testing underfoot and by hand on whichever hull you're viewing. The paired aft helm stations that define the Open layout trade some visibility for close crew communication; boats.com noted that sightlines from the 46 Open's twin wheels are more restricted than from a raised helm, so check forward and blind-spot visibility from both wheels during a trial.
