Buying a used Furia: know which Furia you're looking at
A used "Furia" almost certainly means one specific thing: a fiberglass cruiser-racer from the Spanish yard that built the range at Lliçà de Vall near Barcelona, first as Dresport and later as Furia Yacht S.A., between 1978 and the yard's closure in the early 1990s. A separate, unrelated Italian one-off wooden ocean racer of the same name exists, built by Cantiere Santarelli in 1975, but it isn't part of this production run and won't turn up as a used-boat prospect. Beyond that naming confusion, buying a used Furia is buying into a mainstream Spanish yard's full lifecycle -- founders who came and went, a mid-run creditor crisis, and a corporate rename -- more than one unbroken design lineage.
Which era to target
The earliest boats -- the Furia 28 and 33 that launched the line in 1978 -- were designed by co-founder Alberto Cabal before he left the company around 1980 to start a separate yard. From the Furia 32 (1984) on, the Joubert-Nivelt design office held the pen for the rest of the range, including the 37, 1000, and 44; the 372, introduced in 1991, was a wholesale new Joubert-Nivelt hull rather than an incremental update, with a more vertical stem, a fuller midsection, and a wider stern than what came before it. Sources also disagree on how early the 37 lineage starts -- Club Furia's history places its debut in 1984, while Mar Abierto extends the same family, through its later 382, 372, and 392 descendants, across a longer 1981-to-1994 span -- so a boat's model number alone won't pin down its build year as reliably as checking the hull's actual history.
Navigating the lineup
Below the 32/37 tier, the range filled out with the smaller 25, 26, and 302; above it sat the 1000 (also offered as the motorsailer-leaning 1040) and the flagship 44, built with Kevlar-reinforced fiberglass. The lineup listing also carries a D25 and a 1/4 Ton dating to 1976 and 1977-1980 -- years before Dresport existed -- without further attribution; treat those two as outliers rather than part of the same production story as the rest. The full model directory on this page is the place to compare specific lengths and years within that range.
