Buying a used Alibi: a single flagship from a shipyard that no longer exists
A used Alibi on the market is almost certainly the Alibi 54, the brand's flagship catamaran: Alibi Catamarans entered judicial liquidation in October 2017 after French naval architect Loïc Goepfert's decade-old yard went a year without a new boat order. That closure changes what a buyer is evaluating — there's no builder left to answer warranty questions or supply factory parts, so an individual hull's maintenance history and the quality of any refit work matter more than they would with a brand still in business. The 54 also came standard with hybrid electric propulsion, offered in trims running from a stripped-out base boat up to a fully customized one; a drivetrain that unusual is worth having an independent specialist assess, since there's no factory left to call for support on it.
Which era to target
A SAIL Magazine review already had the Alibi 54 reaching the U.S. market by March 2011, when the importer Aeroyacht hoped to have one stateside in time for that year's fall boat shows. A used Alibi 54 for sale is most likely a boat from around that same span — built at Alibi's Bangkok shipyard and, for hulls finished from 2017 onward, potentially touched by the France-based finishing base the company opened that February at the former XL Catamarans premises in Le Canet-en-Roussillon, shortly before the yard folded.
Navigating the lineup
Alibi's range is narrow: the 54 was the yard's only production model, and the 35.35-meter Alibi 116 OneOff trimaran the company revealed in 2016 was a concept design that never reached production, so it won't turn up on the used market.
