The Yankee One Design (YOD) is a classic 30.5-foot fractional sloop, conceived through a unique design competition in 1937 to create a high-performance, light-displacement sailboat. This iconic wooden yacht, often praised for its blend of speed and comfort, was primarily built by the distinguished Quincy Adams Yacht Yard in Massachusetts and the Stone Boat Yard in San Francisco. Designed through a rare collaboration of naval architecture luminaries W. Starling Burgess, L. Francis Herreshoff, and Frank Paine, the YOD has earned a reputation as an excellent day-sailing and racing vessel, also capable of simple cruising.
