In 1972, legendary New Zealand naval architect Jim Young introduced the Young 6 (commonly referred to as the Young 6M or Young 6.0m), a pocket cruiser that would come to exemplify the Kiwi school of highperformance, lightweight trailer sailer design. Jim Young was renowned for pushing naval architecture boundaries, pioneering everything from the iconic Young 88 to highspeed cantingkeel racing yachts and ultralight displacement boats. With the Young 6, his goal was to create an exceptionally light, easily trailered family vessel that did not sacrifice sailing performance or interior volume. Developed in an era when the family car was typically a modest sedan, the Young 6 represented a paradigm shift in how trailer yachts managed the opposing demands of towing safety and onwater stability.
