The Whiting 29 is a celebrated New Zealand racercruiser that represents the pinnacle of the 1970s "Kiwi" design movement. Conceived by the legendary Paul Whiting—a designer whose career was tragically cut short but whose influence on highperformance keelboats remains profound—the 29 was developed as a versatile platform capable of both competitive club racing and coastal family cruising. Built primarily by Whiting Yachts in Auckland, the vessel was a staple of the New Zealand maritime scene, designed to handle the notoriously choppy conditions of the Hauraki Gulf while maintaining the agility of an IORinfluenced halftonner.
