Designed in 1955 by the esteemed Charles Arthur Nicholson—nephew of the legendary Charles E. Nicholson—the South Coast One Design, universally known as the SCOD, represents a highwater mark of postwar British yachting. Conceived by a group of Island Sailing Club members during a skiing holiday, the class was envisioned as an affordable, seaworthy, and capable cruiserracer. It was designed to give families a boat they could comfortably cruise while remaining highly competitive in Solent handicap racing.
