The Scan 22, primarily built by Sandersen Plastic Boats and Nibe Bådeværft in Denmark during the late 1960s and 1970s, is a classic example of the robust, "overbuilt" Scandinavian cruisers that defined the early fiberglass era. Designed by the respected Danish naval architect Aage Utzon in collaboration with Svend Sandersen, the Scan 22 was engineered for the demanding conditions of the Baltic Sea. It is characterized by a traditional aesthetic, a long keel for directional stability, and a fractional rig that emphasizes ease of handling. The model was a predecessor to the more modern performanceoriented designs that would eventually emerge from the region, such as those from XYachts, though its lineage is firmly rooted in the seaworthy, heavydisplacement tradition.
